Art from Alejandro Debonis, Buenos Aires, 13 colored pages + Infopaper, DIN A3 (42 x 30 cm)
Alejandro Lucas Debonis cultivates a very calm, uncluttered style in his pictures that invites you to dream, reflect or meditate. The 13 sheets immediately make it clear that we are in Buenos Aires, La Boca. However, the scenes are not dominated by the hectic life of immigrants - or, in today's terms, by swarms of tourists. Instead, they radiate tranquillity.
The typical colors and shapes of the houses in La Boca, in combination with the night sky, the wide Rio and idealized squares, create spaces in which tango lovers can mentally move. Tango dancers or a bandoneon player, painted in a very restrained manner, function as catalysts for the viewer's own journey in the pictures.
The tango dancers remain in the background, naming the theme and leaving plenty of space. The pictures are a loving, almost abstract and very reduced treatment of the typical images of tango in La Boca, which invite tangueras and tangueros into the realm of enraptured daydreams
