The album was created in 2018 after a creative hiatus of nine years. During his absence, Rubin's influence on current tango music increased enormously and quite a number of tracks from the previous CDs became classics of modern tango.
'Tape' has its own vocal style. He observes, is a questioning chronicler with an appropriately neutral tonality, but definitely distinctive voice. At the same time he has developed his own deeply poetic and nostalgic imagery, often marked by unusual metaphors, often with abandonment of verbs.
The CD is recommended for lovers of modern tango cancion in the Guardia Vieja tradition. Many titles are well danceable, but will hardly be put on at milongas in the arrangements presented. (Review in Tangodanza 94 - 2.2023).
