Brujos

The music on the CD Brujos is a typical example of the new tango sound that emerged after 2000 and emancipated itself from traditional tango in a variety of ways. Banodeonist Julio Coviello explains the basic idea behind the album: "We wanted to present the tango music of a power trio, similar to a rock band."
The very high proportion of original compositions emphasises that the trio wants to present its own music and not a reissue of old tango hits. As is characteristic of 'power music', many of the tracks are very rhythm-orientated. Bandoneon, piano and bass concentrate strongly on the beat, the highlights of the music are rhythmic and less characterised by the melody.

Cañón sees itself as a group that plays for dancers. The emphasis on the rhythms supports the danceability. Traditionally orientated milongueros will enjoy the recording less than those who are open to more recent tango developments. Overall, the CD is particularly interesting for lovers of tango as a bridge to rock.
