Dirk Meißner
Tango Vicioso - Der Übergangsmann
400 Seiten, Softcover, 2024, in German language
The novel asks whether two people can unite in love as a couple without missing themselves and each other. And so the protagonist Herbert, equipped with style and a wealth of education, is also an aged Don Juan who basks in the circle of his conquests - but even more a sad hero at the end of his tango journey, whose happiness in love has repeatedly slipped away.
Dirk Meißner draws on his experience in the Berlin tango scene to create the characters and atmosphere. He visits its major venues: Clärchens Ballhaus, the Red and Green Salon, the Mala Junta as well as the Tangoloft, the Haus der Sinne and the Villa Kreuzberg. The eponymous Milonga Tango Vicioso has a special status. In the premises of a nightclub, it sets sail for a ship of fools on which the dancers can costume and stage themselves as they please, frivolously and uninhibitedly.
